What I Like About Having Bipolar Disorder

Believe it or not, the whole superhero blessing/curse dilemma is a perfect analogy for those struggling with BPD and its many symptoms. So let’s explore the gifts Bipolar leaves you and try to understand why they really are gifts.

An Emotional Rollercoaster, AKA The First Gift:

Yes, from one moment to the next I ride the entire spectrum of emotion. But, what exactly is wrong with that? We FEEL things more intensely than others. Grief, Anger, Joy, the biggies Of human emotion and experience. Isn’t that the purpose of life? To experience it?

We are deeply effected by all forms of art and human expression, often hyper intuitive to the hidden meanings and “outside-the-box” thinking of life, literature, music, and visual art.

Personally, music and movies often leave me weeping, so moved by the perfection and harmony of music and lyric or a beautifully written, performed and directed film.

This intuition leads many of us into fields that necessitate an unending flow of creative and innovative ideas. It allows us to excel in areas many others cannot. And for that, I am grateful.

Stay with me on this intuition angle, please. It weaves itself into the second gift Bipolar leaves you. Cheers! And always remember that “even in the darkest of places, alone and afraid. All you need to do is turn on the lights.”
